Bring your short stories, poems, monologues, stand up etc. If you wrote it share it, if you read it, read again aloud! Each presenter gets approximately 6 minutes. All ages, all genres, all welcome.

Halloween Party: 9pm @ 10C

A Safer-Spaces Halloween Party… no appropriative costumes allowed!! Wear a costume to accentuate your Kareokee and/or Lip Sync Battle performance! That’s right sign-up for Kareokee and LipSync Battles hosted by Brendan Flaherty. Brendan will intro performances with 2 min interviews, through the lens of popular (and "unpopular") music that has been influential to them. It's an interesting way of talking about what inspires people, their histories, their struggles and triumphs, and their opinions on pop cultural ephemera.

Brewery Tour, 12-5pm, starts @ Guelph Civic Museum

Hyperbole beer canBEER! For some it is considered tasty liquid gold. Everyone knows a well crafted brew can be the proverbial cherry on any day. Let's explore that. As part of the 15th Annual Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (Oct 28 – Nov 3) we're taking you on a PINTS & POETRY tour!

Join us on Thursday November 1st as we cruise the city of Guelph and personally enjoy a tour of some of the award winning breweries the area has to offer, a pint*, and of course some poetry at EACH brewery location is included. We'll also be exploring the newly launched Brewing Changes Guelph Exhibit at the Guelph Civic Museum; what a trip!

Breweries include the newest brewery to the Guelph circuit, Fixed Gear, Royal City Brewing Co., The notorious Sleeman Brewery, and Wellington County Brewery the home of HYBERBOLE Harvest IPA, this year's official festival beer.

Meeting Location is at the Guelph Civic Museum at 12pm (be prompt), the first stop on our tour! After checking out the exhibit a bus will whisk us away to the first brewery on the list. Once at the brewery you will receive a drink ticket for your pint* (included in tour ticket price), a tour of the facilities and settle into a wonderful performance of spoken word poetry. Then we are off again.

Tickets are $30 ($20 for CFSW Festival pass holders).

Can't join for the whole deal, that's fine. Come find us at the brewery you can get yourself to, drink and enjoy the poetry. If there is any space left on the bus we'll be happy to have you join us for $5 for every remaining brewery.

Schedule:
  • Guelph Civic Museum (52 Norfolk St.) - 12pm / Bus departure – 12:45
  • Wellington Brewery (950 Woodlawn W.) - 1pm / Bus departure – 1:45
  • Royal City Brewing (199 Victoria Rd S) / Bus departure – 2:45
  • Sleeman Brewery (551 Clair Rd W.) / Bus departure– 3:45

Not finished yet? The tour is, but feel free to join us at Brothers Brewing to enjoy a pint of the Hyperbole - Harvest IPA. Brewed as a collaboration with Wellington Brewery for the 15th Annual Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. This Harvest IPA is more than just hype, it's brewed with an armful of fruit and vegetables including pumpkin, rhubarb, grapefruit, and peaches. Yummy!

Board Games & Craft Corner, 3-5pm @ The Boardroom

Sometimes… there is so much poetry that you don’t have time to just sit and talk and connect with other poets, organizers or audience. Sometime… we find our friends when the focus isn’t on poetry. Come to the board game cafe and geek out over a friendly game. Chill in the craft corner with yarn and glue and glitter.

Speaking our Truths is a long-standing Guelph Pride event, and over the years has seen such a huge array of speakers, stories, victories, triumphs, tragedies, heartbreak, and immense, overwhelming, and radiating love. We're so excited to be bringing it back, especially in partnership with an arts organization that has done so much for the LGBT2QI+ community of Guelph over the years.

So we invite you to come and share with us! Share part of your story, a specific lesson or learning, yearning or love, or anything in between.
