One of the roundtables we’re super excited to bring to the festival this year is “Coaching the Slam.” Ian Keteku, Magpie Ulysses, and Cathy Petch will be offering their thoughts on the subject of providing technical feedback to your fellow poets, and strategies for helping poets improve their writing and performance – and thus their chances with the judges!
To whet your appetites, we give you… SIMON WOURMS! (Admittedly, this isn’t advice you’re likely to hear at the “Coaching the Slam” showcase…)
Coaching the Slam Friday, October 17 Rifflandia HQ (1501 Douglas St) 2:00 – 4:00 PM
As more and more poetry slam tournaments continue to pop up across the country, poets and slam teams have increasingly enlisted the services of a coach to provide critical feedback and an outside perspective on their work. Often the feedback that guides a poet towards success in the poetry slam is the same as that which helps a poet improve their technical abilities as a writer and a performer. This panel will feature veteran performers sharing perspectives on giving constructive criticism that helps poets grow as artists – and find success with the judges.
