Tanya Evanson
Tanya Evanson is an Antiguan-Québécoise interartist poet, performer and arts educator, director of Mother Tongue Media arts productions and The Banff Centre Spoken Word Program. Based in Vancouver, she has published six poetry chapbooks, three studio albums, most recently “Language for Gods” (Mother Tongue Media, 2012), and has been performing spoken wor.l.d music at events and festivals across Canada since 1995.
Her work has been featured nationally and abroad in films, documentaries, music recordings, TV, radio and anthologies, most recently The Great Black North – Contemporary African Canadian Poetry (Frontenac, 2013). As Mother Tongue Media, she produces intercultural and interarts events and festivals. A classically trained Sufi Whirling Dervish, she has been performing and teaching extensively across Europe, Turkey, Japan and Canada for the last decade.
